LESTER MONZON: COLLAPSE ANTONYM
NOVEMBER 9, 2020 – JANUARY 8, 2012
at Thomas Lavin, Pacific Design Center
Built of gorgeous layers of graphite, acrylic and oil paints on top of a polished layer of gesso over Belgian linen; Los Angeles based painter Lester Monzon advances of a complex system of abstractions that simultaneously posits the joy of painting and the destruction of painting. Through an intricate progression of building graph-like patterns and luscious, multi-colored gestures of paint; Monzon creates conditions for their erasure, loss, and failure.
Though Brooklyn born to immigrant parents, Monzon grew up in Southern California and found his interest in art though his childhood love of comic books. Creating his own, Monzon began a lifelong passion for drawing, painting and bold movements of color – not to mention the Ben Day like dots that have emerged as significant motif in his recent series of paintings.
View the exhibition in person Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM with appropriate social distancing measures in place.
