If you’re not skipping town for the long holiday weekend and you’re looking for some creative inspiration, you should head to LACMA to see their exhibit Gifts of the Sultan: The Arts of Giving at the Islamic Courts. Closing this upcoming Monday, three sections (personal, religious and royal gifts) showcase the elaborate and ornate pieces that have been given throughout the centuries. Curator Linda Komaroff wanted to highlight a universal theme that all cultures could embrace. Over 200 works, including jewelry and textiles, are on view and make for a great experience.
